Complete dentures
These replace a full arch, upper or lower, when no natural teeth remain. They rest on the gum and are taken out for cleaning. Getting the fit and the bite right takes several appointments, and it is worth the patience. A rushed denture is one you will not wear.
Partial dentures
Where some natural teeth remain, a partial fills the gaps and clasps onto the remaining teeth for support. It also stops those teeth drifting into the space, which is a problem that compounds if a gap is left for years.
Getting used to them
New dentures feel bulky at first and speech takes a week or two to settle. Start with soft food and cut it small. Sore spots are normal in the first days and easily adjusted, so come back and let us ease them rather than putting the denture in a drawer.
Common questions
How many appointments will it take?
Usually four to five, spread over a few weeks: impressions, bite registration, a try-in, and the fit.
Will people be able to tell?
A well made denture is not obvious. We choose tooth shape and shade to suit your face and your remaining teeth.
How do I clean them?
Out of the mouth, over a bowl of water so they do not break if dropped. Brush with soap and a denture brush rather than toothpaste, which is too abrasive.
